- Does the ADA Apply & The Business Case for an Accessible Site
Presented September 11, 2004
Recently there has been a fair amount of publicity over the New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer's settlement with Priceline.com and Ramada.com over the failure of their websites to be accessible to people with disabilities. Rather than risk going to trial both companies agreed to make changes to their websites and to reimburse the New York State's cost of investigation.
In light of this event I put together a presentation for our SIG members on the applicabiity of the ADA to websites and to some extent the business case why it is good policy to make a website accessible whether or not is required to be accessible under whatever legislation may be applicable.
The original presentation was created using Microsoft PowerPower which is not a format I recommend using on the web so the follow formats are available:
Adobe Acrobat (accessibility presentation pdf)
Macromedia Flash (Flash Paper Version)
Accessible HTML
The accessible HTML version was created from the original slides with the Web Accessibility Wizard for Microsoft ® Office.
