Upcoming: April - May Meetings

Check the blog for updates.

FrontPage SIG: First meeting of the revived FrontPage SG will be on April 21st, the third Thursday in April. More details are now on the FrontPage SIG website http://frontpageandmore.com.

Web Design SIG: Tuesday, April 26, 7:00 pm - 8:45 pm

In 1998, a grassroots coalition of web designers and developers helped end the browser wars by persuading software browser companies to support the same technologies in their browsers. Although browsers still vary somewhat in their support of standards, this is becoming less of an issue. Join us as we talk about the proper structure that will move you away from spaghetti code and other redundancies that double and triple the bandwidth of even the simplest site. It time for forward compatibility. You cannot afford to design tomorrow sites with yesterday’s methods. By coding to standards, your sites will work as well tomorrow, as they do today.

May:

Web Technologies SIG: May 14, 2005

We'll be continuing our eCommerce theme and look at how to use the PayPal Developer's sandbox. We'll use the installation of Zen Cart from the April SIG for testing. I've recently implemented for class registrations at the Start To Web site.

Please send topic suggestions should be sent to: sigleader@webtechsig.org

Web Design SIG : Postion is Everything: Using CSS for Layouts.

Beyond:

Web Technologies SIG: I'm working on a presentation on using Flash on your website. I have a couple of people who have agreed to do presentations on Flash so right now it is a matter of scheduling.

Topic suggestions ar welcome.

Web Design SIG:

Suggestions please: If you have a topic you would like to see covered at either the Saturday Web Technologies SIG send it to Cheryl Wise or Tuesday's Web Design SIG please let RitaTrelewicz know or post it on the SIG mail list.

From the SIG Leader: I would like to have at least one mini-review contributed by a SIG member at each of the SIG meetings. Some of you have received books as door prizes at SIG meetings. If a SIG member is willing to commit to mini-review I maby be able get a reveiw copy from O'Reilly Press but I will need a commitment for a review before I ask. Let me know what meeting you would like to present a review at. It doesn't have to be a long, in-depth review just a summary of whether you found the book useful or not and what level a user would benefit from the book the most.

Announcements:

There is a mail list associated with this SIG. It is an interactive mail list. At this time the volume of mail is low usually not more than 3 per week but there have been occasions where the volume was heavier (19 messages in one week is our record so far). With this in mind if you'd like to subscribe.

The website and design topic discussions and presentations that were on the Web Design SIG site have now been integrated into this site. While the Web Design SIG site is no longer being updated (all new presentations for both SIGs are on this site) you may still view it at http://webdesignsig.org

I've put a new look on the SIG website but I'm hoping it will just be temporary. I'd like to be able to credit a SIG member as the designer of the current site, so here's your chance to shine.

I am also looking for additional graphics to use on this site. Who would like to contribute?
